Clár 1 – Nova Scotia to New Brunswick.
Hector’s epic trip of 6,700 miles begins on the Atlantic Coast in Halifax, Nova Scotia in the Maritimes. He takes to the air with the Sea Kings of the Canadian Navy, drops into the Waterford Glass boys who set up Nova Scotia Crystal and then takes to the streets of Halifax to find out just how many blowins are really here from Scotland and Ireland.
He then takes to the road, meets up with a First Nation lad who’s reaching for stardom in ‘Pow Wow’ Idol, does a spot of Woodcutting before finally taking to the train and a journey North into New Brunswick where he goes on the chase for Wild Moose and Wild Atlantic Salmon on the famous River Miramici.
Clár 2 – Quebec to Montreal
Hector is now 800 miles into his journey across Canada. Next stop is the “Paris of the Americas”, Quebec. He can’t get over the Frenchness of this beautiful city. He finds out the history, plays some spoons, samples the Maple Syrup and has a fight with some Wrestling Girls before heading West on the St. Lawrence River to Festival Loving Montreal.
It’s here that he let’s his stress out in Restaurant Robin de Bois as he smashes some plates, gets smashed some more at Ice Hockey and hangs out and sings some songs with the Algonquin Rapper Samian. All in a day’s work in Montreal.
Clár 3 – Ottawan Valley to Toronto
Hector becomes the Hunter as he joins the Heeb ‘N Rob Show on Wild TV as he goes in search of his first doe or wild turkey. Then with some ‘Poutine’ on board he ends up at a Traditional Irish Music Session in the Ottawan Valley. Next stop is Kingston on the Banks of Lake Ontario where Hector becomes the Town Crier for the day before embarking on his first main journey as he drives Westward to Toronto.
There to meets him in this amazing city is Mo Johnston, formerly of Celtic and Rangers who now coaches Toronto FC. With a little bit of breakdancing thrown in and a Speech outside the Four Courts of Canada it was time for Hector to go meet one of his all time hero Heavy Metal Bands in a shed outside Toronto – Anvil Rocks !
Clár 4 – Niagara Falls to Mantoulin Island
And so the journey really begins across this epic country as Hector hires a Truck and drives 1230 miles across the huge province of Ontario. He begins on the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls meeting up with Rubin “Hurricane” Carter and then he takes to the speed tracks with Pat Cryr and his Drifting posse.
But then his journey really does begin as he heads towards Stratford and goes out on the land with the Amish. Then further North he ventures to Tobermory and onward to Mantoulin Island where he links up with the First Nation people for a singsong, meets some Newfoundland Painters and takes to the waters of Lake Huron and heads for his next stop Winnipeg!
Clár 5 – Winnipeg to Saskatoon
Hector hops in his truck in Winnipeg, Manitoba and this time embarks on a road journey of 2000 miles through the prairies. First stop is a quick chat with Eric Schweig from “The Last of the Mohicans” in Winnipeg but then he hits the golden prairies as he heads out on a Grain Farm, meets up with Old George a lifelong hoarder, before taking the Yellow Head Route North.
En route he links up with a lady long haul trucker, then heads to Saskatoon where he meets up with Brad Muir and takes the Huskies out on the dirt tracks for their Pre Winter Training! He’s in real rural Canada now and he’s lovin it !
Clár 6 – Calgary to Edmonton
This is Cowboy Country – Calgary, Alberta. Hector links up with Mac the Cowboy to learn the old ways of the country on horseback before doing his “Brokeback Mountain” impression on the streets of Calgary. But then he takes to the track and heads Northeast towards Drumheller to check out Dinosaur Land before heading North once again linking up with Chuckwagon Racers, Cowboy Hat makers and Rodeo Kids as he makes his way to Edmonton.
Here he gets on board a segway, does a couple of press ups with a World Record Holder before embarking on a journey in search of Bison on Elk Island. And guess what he ends up eating one !!
Clár 7 – Vancouver to Whistler
Hector arrives to his most Westerly point so far as he thinks back on 6 weeks ago he was hugging the Atlantic and now he is gently caressing the Peaceful Pacific !
There’s a real West Coast Vibe here as he heads even further West to Vancouver Island where he links up with the famous Heli Loggers from the Discovery Channel and ends up chain-sawing down a red cedar worth 35k ! All in a day’s work for our Hector.
Back in Vancouver he chats to Jodie Emery from Cannabis Culture who’s husband Mark has just been arrested in New York for trafficking Cannabis Seeds. But alas his time in Vancouver comes to an end as he boards the Rock Mountaineer Train and journeys through the rockies to the famous Ski Resort of Whistler.
This was the cohost with Vancouver in the Winter Olympics and its still beaming. He heads to the top of Whistler Mountain and touches snow for the first time on the trip, meets up with local mad band the Hairfarmers, meets some Irish and generally has a great old time ! This is the Aspen of Canada !
Clár 8 – Whitehorse to Dawson City
And so Hector begins the final leg of his 6,700 mile journey. It’s not enough in his book to go East to West. He’s now on a trip of 1800 miles North to the Border of Alaska and the famed Dawson City.
He flies to Whitehorse in the Yukon, goes in chase of the Sasquatch with Red Grossinger, checks out the local beer and then hires himself a monster truck to take to the only Highway to Dawson.
It’s open countryside, it’s wild, it’s remote, he bumps into a Bear family crossing the road, makes sure his fuel gauge is on the high and enjoys the drive North and after 5 hours he arrives in Dawson City, home of the Gold Rush. He’s now only 200 Miles from the Arctic Circle.
He meets old time miners, prospectors, a guy who makes the gold bars and with a bit of Gambling in Gerties thrown in it’s a wild and crazy end to an epic trip !
