First broadcast in 2007, ‘Mí na Meala’ has been watched by young and old over its 5 year existence. Little did we know that after 3 great years featuring 22 great couples from all over Ireland that we would refresh the format and return for Season Four in 2012 – But this is what we did. And who knows whay might be in store for 2013 !
The series features Irish Married Couples who met in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s and the 80’s at this stage reminiscing on their courtship, their wedding and finally on their honeymoon .. It’s normally a nostalgic trip down memory lane for the couples but is also a opportunity for us to look at the way marriage, the vows and the build up to marriage has changed, how the preparation has changed, how prices have changed, how choice has changed … Not alone are we on a journey back with the couples but also we cleverly examine the changes that have taken place over time for the couples and marriage in general .
The series gently touches on travel, changing times, the evolution of marriage and relationship, changing cultures, history, gentle humour and aims to entertain a broad, prime time audience of all ages.
Part 1 features the initial contact with the couple as they take us through their first meeting, their courtship and their marriage day, using photos, video footage and other memorabilia blended with archive.
Then in Part 2 the couple pack their bags and take us all on a visit back to where they had their honeymoon, allowing them to recall special places or moments from that time and examining changes which have happened in the meantime.
In the end it’s a time for reflection on their lives together, their family, their future together which is always tinted with smiles, hope and sometimes sadness.
